How to Choose the Right Gaming Monitor

Choosing a good monitor either for gaming or everyday use should be hard. But first, it all depends on what you are looking for in a monitor. Still, here are some of the things you need to be looking at when shopping for a gaming monitor:

Screen Size

This aspect relies completely on your setup area because you don’t want a huge monitor on a tiny desk or verso-versa. That’s first, second, if you don’t mind the inconvenience in terms of dimensions, then a bigger monitor should be great and it’ll add up immensely to your gaming experience making realer and more indulging.

The monitors we listed in this guide are all 21-24 and are really versatile; they’re neither annoyingly small neither big.

Refresh rate

Now this is important. Refresh rate makes a huge difference when it comes to gaming; it eliminates tearing, ghosting as it keeps things sharp and it offers a high reaction time.

The monitors we mentioned here have a refresh rate between 60 and 75 Hz which is amazing for their prices. However, expensive monitors can hit 144-240 Hz for refresh rate and that’s every gamers dream.

Still, unless you are super competitive and take gaming super seriously, then 60-75 Hz refresh rate shouldn’t be a huge drawback.

Response Time

The best response time on pricey monitors is 1ms and it’s honestly outstanding because it makes the gaming experience a lot more immerging and breath taking. However, 5-7 ms for a response time is good, too, and only a professional gamer could terribly notice the difference.

Casual or light gaming on a budget monitor doesn’t require that speedy response time.

Now just for the record; a 7ms response time is faster than your reflexes anyway.

Panel Type

The panel type is the one that’ll allow you to experience the same image quality from all different angles without color shifting or losing brightness and that would be the IPS panel that’s known for its high performance, true colors and great viewing angles. However, the TN panel is the best in terms of pixel quality and this type is the most common when talking about cheap to affordable monitors.

Connectivity Options

An ideal monitor would be one with all kinds of different ports and inputs but that’s technically not happening. Thus, a monitor with HDMI ports, DVI and Display port along with some USB ports should be good.

That being said, always make sure you opt for the monitor that’s compatible with your PC’s graphic card.

Final Thoughts

We have to say it; you get what you pay for. One of these extremely affordable monitors could be your best gaming monitor under $100 and that alone is enough reason to appreciate them.

They might not be the top notch quality you’re dreaming of but they’ll do the job very nicely.
